A MEMORABLE VISIT TO OLDAGE HOME
“How incessant and great are the ills with which a prolonged old age is replete.
The life is too short to learn everything but that day makes us learn a lot in this very young age.
Yes, we IBians on the special occasion of one of our classmate’s birthday went to the Old Age Home namely “Aum Shanti Bhawan”, No doubt it was an overwhelming thought to celebrate it with those oldies.
The moment we stepped into the boundary, we all were so confused and even excited because this was our first time and none of us was really aware of what exactly we are going to do with them.
Still we entered just by keeping our hands on hearts but we all realized that the atmosphere was so different than what we expected, we all got relaxed just by looking at the sweet faces of those caring ones.
At the arrival we observed the facilities coz we just wanted to make sure everything was alright here. We had made a plan to cook the dinner for them and we followed a schedule. Having confronted them in the kitchen we realized that it was a very similar feeling to the one that we have at our homes with MOM cooking by our sides. Harshad Pokharna (The Birthday Boy) who is very good at cooking anyway prepared a sweetdish (Suji ka Halwa) and Anupriya and Shruti prepared chapattis (Paranthas). It was an awesome experience to be doing things for someone you love and care. It gave everyone a completely different sense of some kind of an ever-lasting joy. Here the things turned out to be charitable, we were the ones cooking and serving these sweet souls. Hospitality is a thing, probably, we carried from there, into our lives for good. Consequently we also realized the regular practice of it in our daily lives.
Followed by an exchange of memories where we had pretty long dialogues and analogies were established, wherein some moments obviously got very sentimental with tear drops trickling down both the youthful and wrinkly eyes.
We played a few indoor games along with celebrating one of our friend’s birthday. Departing was difficult as we had created a great bond with them. Closing with the lesson we promised that we’d definitely take care of our old ones and the ones in the vicinity.
